Coinbase has launched a way for users to connect software agents directly to their accounts. The first release is available through an MCP integration and a command-line interface.
The agent can trade, make payments, and execute workflows within user-defined boundaries. Coinbase says users can isolate the agent in its own portfolio and is adding more specific controls over trade size, spending, and counterparties.
The product puts permissions at the center of agentic finance. The interesting question is no longer only whether an agent can transact, but how clearly a person can bound, inspect, and revoke that authority.
